Public Community Service If you were ordered to complete an Alcohol Education Program or Alcohol Treatment, your public community service requirement must be completed and received at the Driver Retraining office of the Division of Motor Vehicles within 120 days from your conviction date. You will receive information regarding public community service along with a suspension order advising you of your suspension date. This information will be mailed to the address the Division of Motor Vehicles has on file for you. When you have completed the public community service, please provide the documentation as specified in the information sent to you: Your letter must be on the letterhead of the non-profit organization and be an original document; We do not accept faxed documents; Your letter must include your full name, spelled correctly, with your date of birth; Your letter must indicate the number of hours you have completed; Your letter must be signed by someone within the organization with the authority to do so. Please mail to the Driver Retraining Office, Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles, 600 New London Avenue, Cranston RI 02920, YOU MUST ALLOW SEVEN (7) TO TEN (10) BUSINESS DAYS IF YOU MAIL YOUR DOCUMENT. ON-LINE PUBLIC COMMUNITY SERVICE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. No. NO PUBLIC COMMUNITY SERVICE DONE ON LINE WILL BE ACCEPTED. Can I do my public community service anywhere? Your public community service must be done for a non-profit organization. Can I do my public community service out of state? Yes, as long as the organization is non-profit. Does the Division of Motor Vehicles charge a fee to fulfill my public community service? No. There is no fee charged by the DMV to fulfill the public community service requirement. I have a letter showing I completed my community service. What do I do now?
