RHODE ISLAND’S TITLE LAW HAS CHANGED ***Effective March 1, 2024*** The Rhode Island DMV will no longer be accepting photocopies, images, or electronic copies of titles. All new registration and/or new title transactions will now REQUIRE THE ORIGINAL TITLE to be submitted to the RI DMV at the time the transaction takes place. Your lienholder or leasing company can send the original title to the RI DMV, ATTN: Research Office, 600 New London Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920 or to you directly. We highly recommend that the title and other documents are sent with tracking information to enable customers and lienholders to know when the title was received. As long as your contact information (name, address, phone and e-mail) is included with the title, the RI DMV will contact you once your original title has been received so you can complete your transaction. Be advised that this process can take several weeks for the original title to be sent to the RI DMV. Please also be advised that the RI DMV cannot request a title from a lienholder or lease company. A VIN check is required for all transactions involving an Out-of-State title/vehicle. Reservations are required for all visits. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. Alcohol Education I have been ordered to complete Alcohol Education. What do I do? If you have been ordered to complete an Alcohol Education Program you must register for the program at the Driver Retraining Office. You cannot register for the program at CCRI. The Driver Retraining Office is located inside the Adjudication Office of the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles, 600 New London Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920. The office is located on the first floor. The cost of the Alcohol Education program is $350.00. The Alcohol Education Program is held at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). Upon registration, you will have your choice of which CCRI campus is most convenient for you. CCRI will notify you when your program begins. If you have not been contacted within six (6) weeks, please contact CCRI at (401) 825-2401. Please be advised that the first class of the program is always held at the Warwick (Knight) campus. CCRI campus choices are as follows: Community College of Rhode Island - Warwick 400 East Avenue, Warwick, RI 02886 Community College of Rhode Island - Lincoln 1762 Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln, RI 02865 Community College of Rhode Island - Newport County One John H. Chafee Boulevard., Newport, RI 02840 Once you have selected your campus, you must select the days of the week on which you would like to attend. The program is held on the following days and times: Monday and Wednesday: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday and Thursday: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM To 4:00 PM Please be aware that you will be required to take an alcohol assessment at the first class. If your alcohol assessment reveals that you have a high probability of reoffending, you must attend the program where CCRI referred you to. In accordance with RIGL 31-27-2(f)(1), an alcohol treatment provider must be approved by The Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.
